Bilodeau Family Name Definitions

I am updating this page in hopes someone will come forward with further research on this subject. I am currently up to three definitions of perhaps where the Bilodeau family name comes from, here they all are.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LOVE LETTER (Billet~doux) This is the current (was it the same spelling in 15-16th century?) spelling of love letter in French and it is the most common understanding , unfortunately I have yet to find this definition in any research books I have come across. It hardly means that it is not true it just means I have not found any research on it yet. If you have any reference material for it please email it to me thanks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FRIENDLY WOLF (Billou (d), -oux), This is taken from "Dictionnaires étymologique des noms de famille et prénoms de France" (Etymological Dictionary of the first name surnames of France). It appears to represent personal name from germ.: Bili-wulf (Bili, friendly, and wulf, wolf).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ONE WHO PUT THE SEAL ON OR POSTED OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS I found this definition in a book called "The Amazing Story of the Bilodeaus in Canada", by Sharon Taylor, Copyright 1984. This book is NOT a good book, basically it was a rip off, but it did have this meaning in the book, I thought I would add it, maybe it could have some merit.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My best guess, from what I've researched the only one I have found in an actual book is Billoudoux, comes very close to Billaudeau. The original name of our ancestor Jacques. To be honest, although it does fit very well, I do like to think that the first Bilodeau earned the name "Friendly Wolf".

As you can see , I am a Bilodeau.
I was always brought up being told that the translation for our name was " a letter of enchantment" ...a love letter

But what I wanted to tell you is that it is a question that appears in Trivial Persuit that was out in the late 80's "What is a billet doux?" the answer "A love letter" :)
